This is the first post in this blog for this year. This is also the second published anything on my site for this year — the only other thing that I managed to get out was my “Solving Shrinkwrap: New Experimental Technique” article.
Oh well! But it is another November, and — for the fourth time — I am attempting the challenge of posting something in my blog on every day of the month, also known as “#NaBloPoMo”.
It is a pretty tough challenge! Every time, when it gets closer to the end of it, I am wondering why in the world I am attempting it, but… I am happy about many things that I managed to publish this way. Not all of them, but hey.
Previously, most of those November posts were not planned in advance. I might have had some basic ideas and wrote them down, but did not really have a strict schedule of when I would post them (with certain exceptions).
This time, I am trying to approach things slightly differently.
I gathered many more ideas about what to write in advance, saved them into a “November Plans” document in my Obsidian. Although, I think I started seriously thinking about preparing for this challenge in September, so most of those draft ideas were compiled in the last two months.
I decided to try to stick to a very specific list of categories based on the days of the week, with exactly four posts per one of seven categories. November has 30 days in it, so the category-based posts cover 28 of those, and I decided to keep the first and last days for the posts related to the challenge itself.
The first post — this one! — is for the introduction and plans for everything, and the last post will be for the summary. Here is, for example, the final post of the last year’s challenge.
As I mentioned in the above post, last year I already dedicated weekends for non-frontend related writings. So this year’s structure will logically expand on that:
-
Mondays will be for sharing something related to my blog/website. Meta Mondays, if you want. Very often, when I write something here, I end up doing some work on the blog’s CSS or build, or something else. There are things to share, which I will try doing on Mondays!
-
Tuesdays will be dedicated to writing about CSS. Technique Tuesday. Compared to other Novembers, this time I will have less time to share stuff about CSS, so I will need to choose what exactly I’ll share on each of four Tuesdays.
-
Wednesdays will be for my web platform wishlists. World Wide Web Wishlist Wednesdays, Wow. Many people shared their thoughts about Interop for the next year recently, and often there are things that might not count for that, but which would be cool to write about.
-
Throwback Thursdays is something I wanted to do for a while. If you did not notice, when I publish articles on my main website, they tend to be pretty long and detailed. They’re often packed with information and there are neat things and implementation details that people are likely missing when skimming over them. So, on Thursdays, I will try to revisit some of those details and share things I thought need to get more attention.
-
Almost every week there is a CSS Working Group meeting, and one thing I wanted to start doing more often — give summaries over what is happening in our working group. Let’s name it Future Feature Fridays or something.
-
On Saturdays, I want to Share more of the things that I like. Not exactly sure what form this will take — maybe will write about some games I played? Anime I watched? Music I enjoyed? We’ll see.
-
Same as last year, I will try to mostly publish my photos on Sundays. Shutter Sundays? Or, actually, I will likely publish the photos themselves on my Pixelfed on other days too, but will write about them here on Sundays.
When you separate topics this way, and then need to do only four posts for each, it suddenly feels much more doable? And maybe even a bit limiting?
I think I might have had many more ideas about what to write, and some of the topics could have much more I wanted to share. I hope that for anything on top of that I will gather all the notes and drafts to make it possible for me to write more in my blog on other months.
With that, I hope you will be fine with the sudden daily spam in my RSS this month!
